If you were lucky enough to make your way to the 2015 World Beard And Moustache Championships in Leogang Austria, you got to see the greatest exhibition of manly facial hair in years. Over 300 men from 300 countries made their way to the Austrian mountains to put their beards to the test, and this event definitely did not disappoint. The residents of this tiny alpine town opened their arms for their bearded and moustachioed guests so they could strut their stuff and compete for recognition and world-wide fame.
The 2015 World Beard & Moustache Championships
This years event in Leogang was a huge success, as contestants competed in an impressive 18 different categories stretched across 3 different divisions. Those divisions were broken down into full beards, partial beards, and of course the moustache. Although there were clear winners in each category, every entrant displayed a unique look and style that makes this show what it has grown into today. The popularity of the event attracts more attention each year, and this year was no different.
Championships Schedule of Events
Although the World Beard & Moustache Championships is hosted in a different country every year or so, attendees and spectators are growing steadily. With only the three groups, the categories within are as diverse as the men who make the long trek to the event. Categories like best fashion beard, best stubble, and best goatee, assure that even guys with a small amount of facial hair can get involved with the fun and competitive spirit of the show. Located in the heart of the Salzburg Land, this isolated location became the capital for the bearded ones from around the globe.
The event kicked off on October 3, 2015 and was host to over 350 bearded entrants who were judged for their unusual, original, and attractive facial hair. The three-day event included:
October 2, 2015: 5th-anniversary celebration of the event band “Krainerwind”
October 3, 2015: Beard World Championship of 2015
October 4, 2015: 125th anniversary and celebration for Leogang´s traditional marching band
The breakdown of the events that took place this year at the World Beard & Moustache Championships
October 2, 2015 – The following took place at the pavilion and event hall at the Leogang secondary school:
7:00 pm – All guests and attendees welcomed to the event with a huge dinner
8:30 pm – Celebration of the 5 year anniversary of the band “Krainerwind”
The celebration included live music by: Die Pagger Buam, Die Stürmische Böhmische, and the guests of honor Krainerwind
October 3rd, 2015 – 2015 World Beard Moustache Championships at the pavilion & event hall at the Leogang secondary school:
12:00 pm – Show kicks off with welcome speech and the marching in of all participants
12:30 – 2:00 pm – Judging begins in the group of moustache, all categories in moustache group are are display and judged.
2:15 – 2:45 pm – Judging begins in the group of chin & stubble beard, all categories in chin & stubble beard group are are display and judged.
4:00 – 6:00 pm – Judging begins in the group of full beard, all categories in the full beard group are are display and judged.
8:00 pm – Prices are given out to all winners in their respected categories and groups.
Once the prizes were distributed, the band Krainerwind performed for all in attendance.
October 4th, 2015 – Leogangs traditional marching band pageant and all 2015 the World Beard Championship participants
8:45 am – All attendees line-up for march
9:00 am – The ceremonial act commences
10:00 am – The pageant begins
Once the pageant was completed, a concert with live music from traditional neighboring communities begins. These communities included Fieberbrunn, Weißbach, Maishofen, Hochfilzen, and Saalfelden.
2:00 pm – End of event concludes with live music by Hippacher Musikanten
