beard-transplantNo doubt there are razor manufacturers the world over bemoaning the beard resurgence that seems to have hit every continent in the last couple of years. However, you’d have a hard time finding too many other industries that have been negatively impacted by the explosion of facial hair. In fact, some of them are positively booming because of men and their penchant for face whiskers.

Barbers Are Booming

Before the beard boom, barbers were limited to only the occasional shave and the usual hair cuts. It was a far cry from the heyday of the barbershop in the late 1800s and early 1900s. However, the surge in popularity of beards and mustaches has made these businesses more necessary than ever before.

Surging Beard Popularity Spurs Growth in Other Sectors

Beard grooming as an art largely died out over the past few decades, so when wearing a beard once more became popular, a lot of men didn’t really know how to care for it. They’re turning to barber shops to ensure they get a professional touch. While men with shorter beards can often trim on their own, full beards need a lot more care, and professional skill can help transform what would be a tangled bird’s nest into something stylish and appealing.

It’s about more than just getting a cut and trim for most customers. For them, it’s about something uniquely masculine.

Product Manufacturers Rebound

Another industry that has seen significant growth is the men’s grooming product sector. Not that long ago, you’d have had a hard time finding much of anything in the way of beard balm, beard oil, beard conditioner, or even beard combs or brushes outside a specialty shop. These days, they’re making their way into the average big box store, and they can be found almost everywhere online.

Not only are major manufacturers getting into the act, but so are smaller companies. A number of the best selling products on the market are actually from one or two-person companies, where each item is made by hand. It’s an interesting time to be a beard wearer, for sure.

Will these trends remain? Only time will tell. However, the popularity of beards doesn’t seem to be on the wane, and even if it does taper off, chances are good that many of these local businesses will have developed lifetime clientele interested in the unique experience only they can offer.
